What are your qualifications?Foundation Certificate in Person-Centred Counselling (1999) Post-graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling (2002) Brief Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy MembershipsAccredited counsellor/psychotherapist by BACP. MBACP (Accred). Accredited counsellor by Cruse Bereavement Care UKRC Registered Independent Counsellor How experienced are you?Counsellor for Cruse Bereavement Care (5 years) Counsellor at Leicester Counselling Centre (10 years) Counsellor/Psychotherapist in private practice I have been practising in Leicestershire for 11 years. What is your motivation?I am a published writer who is unusually well-read. This reading (psychology/ philosophy/literature) has given me a broad perspective that clients have found helpful in orientating them in their lives (past/present/future). A frequent comment is, “I have gained perspective.” Seeing the enrichment in clients’ lives is my main motivation for this work. How do you work?I wish to hear from the client what is troubling him/her and how we might work with this. You talk; I listen. I will make links that may enlighten you. My knowledge of classical psychoanalysis and my training in brief psychoanalytic psychotherapy mean that, where appropriate, I would hope to complete the work in 20 – 25 sessions. Some clients may need fewer than this, some more. As a qualified, experienced practitioner, I am here to help you to make sense of your past in a way that may help you to move forward into a more dynamic, fulfilling present. Age is no barrier to this. Older people who feel they have “missed the boat” or are anchored in the past may find they are able to move forward in ways they had not previously envisaged (one client expressed it as “It feels as though a stream was blocked and now is flowing again”). What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy? Many experienced practitioners believe there is no difference; some counsellors are practising psychotherapy without realising it. A qualified psychotherapist will be more aware of the theory and the impact his/her practice may have on the client. What is psychodynamic counselling?“Psychodynamic” means, literally, the dynamics within the self (or soul) and is about looking at the past as it impacts on the present. The practitioner will have a comprehensive knowledge of child development, and will use this to help the client understand why (s)he behaves as (s)he does in the present. What is person-centred counselling?Person-centred counselling is very much about the here-and-now relationship with the counsellor. The counsellor will focus primarily on whatever the client brings to counselling and will accept this without judging. My own approach combines the two: I accept each person unconditionally – but use my psychodynamic insights to help him/her move forward in life. Why should you choose me?I am primarily a therapist. You (not I) are at the centre of our work together. Because I know who I am, I am able to help you discover who you are – without the confusions that may arise when the therapist is seeking/searching, still unsure of his/her own identity. I value wisdom and work always with integrity and compassion. What is the Coach House? This is a dedicated space where clients are able to explore their difficulties. See CHRISTOPHER DAVIS AND ASSOCIATES for other therapists who practise here. Where is the Coach House? When Can I See You ?I offer daytime and some evening appointments. Our initial meeting will usually be within one week of your enquiry. What is your fee?My usual fee for individuals is £40 per session. (50 Minutes). Where a person genuinely cannot afford this, yet I feel I may be able to help, I will negotiate a fee. The initial assessment session is £20. My fee for couples is £70 per session (1 hour 20 minutes) A detailed client information sheet will be sent on request. |
